How to Graph Equations

Previously we have discussed about rational numbers on number line and In today’s topic we are going to study about Graphing Equations, Graphs, algebra 2 in detail which comes under tamilnadu education board.
the first topic of discussion today is the Graphs:
what are Graphs?
A graph is a representation of some data acquired or a function in mathematics. the most common used  graphs only have the x- axis and the y-axis.

Graphing is a very simple way of plotting data. When a set of x, y values are given, we simply plot each point on the xy plane as it is given in set form.
There are various forms of graphs
Graphs are the pictures which help us understand data
Circle graph: it is a graph which is shaped like a circle.it I sdivided into fractions that look like pieces of pie,so it is sometimes also called as the pie graph.(Need full details on equations, click here)

next type of graph is called as the Bar Graph
a bar graph uses bars to show data.the bars can be vertical ( up and down),or horizontal (across).the data can be in words or numbers.
The next kind of graph for Grade 2 in algebra 2 is
A picture graph uses pictures or symbls to show data
The next type of graph I sthe histogram .
It is a specialkind og bar graph here data is shown as numbers

The next form of graph is the line graph
This kind of graph shows points plotted on the graph and these points are joint to form a line.
Now we move to further learnabout graphic equations
Graphic equations can be graphed using slope and y intercept.
Locate the y- intercept on the graph and plot the point
From this point use the slope o  find the second plot nd point.
Suppose we have to graph for the equation y=1/2x +2
One method we could use is to find the x and y values of two points that satisfy the equation, plot each point, and then draw a line through the points. We can start with any two x values we like, and then find y for each x by substituting the x values into the equation. Let's start with x = 1
When x=1 then y=2.5
And when x=2 then y=3
We mark these points on the graph and mover further.
Graphing Using Slope and Y-Intercept
There's another way to graph an equation using your knowledge of slope and y-intercept. Suppose we have the equation
Y=mx +b
And y=1/2x +2
We can find the slope and y-intercept of the line just by looking at the equation: m = 1/2 and y intercept = 2. by looking at these values, we already know one point on the line! The y-intercept gives us the point where the line intersects the y-axis, so we know the coordinates of that point are (0, 2), since the x value of any point that lies on the y axis is zero.
We have discussed in detail the important types and ways of plotting on graphs the graphic equation related to algebra 2 and if anyone want to know about Linear Equations Word Problems then they can refer to internet and text books for understanding it more precisely.Read more maths topics of different grades such as Algebra and Functions in the next session here.
